Lu Yin focuses his practice on electrical patent prosecution, including the preparation of patent applications and opinions in the fields of computer and Internet software, database, networking, semiconductors, telecommunication, integrated circuits, software, bioinformatics and other related technologies.

Most specifically, Mr. Yin focuses his practice on computer software and telecommunications. He is experienced in packet-based communication technologies, including voice over IP, TCP/IP, intrusion detection, firewalls, routing, and in wired and wireless applications for telephone and Internet applications. He also has experience in database applications. Mr. Yin served as a U.S. Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He provides counseling for intellectual property-related matters, such as patent, trademark and copyright, for large and small companies, with an emphasis on patent strategies.

Mr. Yin’s legal practice focuses on Silicon Valley-based companies and spans globally, emphasizing Asia. He prosecuted patent applications for a variety of large companies and institutions, including EA Games, Disney, Pixar, Affymetrix and California Technology Institute. He provided legal services for a variety of start-up companies, including Neoscale Systems, Airtight Networks, Asoka, Ipera, Metavize, Solaria and Silicon Genesis. He has worked with a variety of Asia-based companies, including Kingsoft, Huawei Technologies, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation and Hitachi.

Prior to joining the legal profession, Mr. Yin interned as a programmer at Metrowerks and helped develop compiler optimization tools and graphical user interfaces and database applications. Mr. Yin studied at Peking University in Beijing, China, where he worked closely with Beijing municipal government to study a variety of intellectual property issues.
